Where were you in January 2009? Starting a new job? Looking for work? Trying to figure out the digital revolution and all the tools associated with it? You may not even remember.
In January 2009, we started up FROM BOGOTA WITH LOVE. Now 13 months later we’re on our 300th blog post, reaching out to you with two blogs (FBWL and our sister site, PIXELS & PILLS) on a semi-daily basis and getting ready to launch another retail focused blog in just a few short weeks. While 300 may be just a number on a WordPress stats counter, it does feel like somewhat of a milestone and we wanted to take a second to look back and see what we’ve learned.
One blog post may not be enough to cover all the insights writing FBWL has provided us but it can sum up an essential principal that everyone from Tom Peters to Seth Godin to our patron saint, Steve Jobs has been saying lately.
You gotta ship. Or in the case of digital communicators, you gotta write/post.
It’s not new advice. It’s the advice Stephen King gave to aspiring writers almost 20 years ago. But it’s as true in our field as it is now.
Someone asked us the other day why we blog.
We talked about brand awareness and sharing conversations and providing an outlet for our company news and sharing our working culture.
But the bottom line is we blog because the heart and soul of our company is digital communication. Reaching out to a larger community is in our corporate and personal DNA. Whenever we start a new outreach program (a blog, website, application, client campaign, or whatever) we never have a guarantee of success. But even the projects we’ve worked on that haven’t been as popular as we like have taught us something.
As a wise man once said, it’s about the journey not the destination.
So if you’ve been thinking about creating a website, tweeting out your thoughts or getting a few musings down in a weblog (remember that term?), don’t hesitate. Fire up the keyboard and let the world know what you have to say.
We’ll be waitin’ for ya’
In the meantime, we hope you’ll stick with us for the next 300 posts (and beyond!). We promise to try and continue to bring you snapshots of the Zemoga experience, news about new technologies and trends that can impact your business, and the occasional bit of “gee whiz” or humor to help get you through the day. And as always, we’ll do it …
