Our intern Will Roberston, was really excited about last week’s Apple releases. A few things our resident fanboy thought worth pointing out:
-While Apple originally said that Lion was going to be a mac store release only, you can now purchase a USB with Lion loaded onto it at the Apple store for $69.99
-Additionally, Apple now supports something called ‘Internet Recovery‘ which lets you install Lion onto a blank drive
-The keys on the new MacBook Airs are now backlit, one of the major complaints with the last iterations of MacBook Airs.
-The new MacBook Airs use Bluetooth 4.0, which will probably be useful for hooking up peripherals to the sparse machine.
-The new MacBook Airs outbenchmark the best 2010 Macbook Pros!
-The new Mac Minis lack an optical drive, implying that Apple intends for them to be used as servers now.
-New Mac Minis return to $599, whereas the last model was $699.
-Apples upcoming Thunderbolt display will also charge your laptop through the video cable. Audio and ethernet will also be transfered through the same cable.
-The white Macbook has been discontinued, but can still be ordered in bulk by educational institutions.
-You may have already heard, but Apples been trying to put in a Grand Central Terminal store for a while. Looks like it’s going to happen.
