Hey everybody, I’m the new intern, Will!
I come from the sleepy town of Wilton, Connecticut, a simple place where, as we put it, there are four seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction.
Wilton also happens to be one of Zemoga’s three locations. Founder and CEO DJ Edgerton is a proud Wiltonite (and he plays poker with my dad). You can tell how much he loves his hometown by the luxurious accommodations. Speaking of which, I got my very own desk yesterday:
I was told that I can’t put my laptop on it because the last intern did that, and his Mac overheated and the whole place went up in flames. Safety first at Zemoga!
Anyway, it’s clear that Zemoga is pretty dedicated to finding solutions to problems. Need a social media strategy that’s relevant to your brand personality? Zemoga’s got the answer. Need a highly interactive website for your business that’s compatible with the latest Apple gadget? No sweat for these guys. Need a drawer fixed in twenty minutes? Well, I’m your man.
Oh, and FYI, there’s a guy here named Dror. By the time he figured out that I was talking about furniture, we were already knee-deep in a pretty awkward conversation. Lesson learned.
Actually, my real first day was in the New York City office, and boy, did they put me to work! I was hoping to troll around the city a bit and see the sights: the Empire State Building, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Spiderman…But there were so many things that needed to be done, and if I want to be a part of this team, I need to keep up.
Even at the start, I realized that everyone in the office has their own way of getting the job done. For instance, DJ doesn’t sleep; and for him, work is play, so it’s kind of like staying up all night to win the newest, coolest video game out there. I don’t know who Dan Licht sold his soul to, but he’s one pretty prolific Chief Creative Officer. Like world-changing prolific. Sven Larsen’s the Chief Marketing Officer and Canadian. I can tell because he’s entirely too nice to everybody. Kamron Hinatsu is in charge of client strategy and has an opinion on everything. Seriously. Everything. At the desk next to mine, Tech VP Dennis Portello is using two Macbooks at the same time. He’s also fixing PC server behind him and talking to someone on the phone (seriously, how many arms does this guy have?!). Marketing Associate Kim is a perky perfectionist who’s all business. Briana’s our Special Ops and the whole office would fall apart without her…and her signature sass.
Another thing I learned is that Zemogans always have technology and innovation on the brain, and the office buzz is constantly around the next big thing. Everyone’s got an opinion, and today I was asked what my opinion is on HTML5’s video display capabilities. Uh, let me get back to you on that.
Even for all the work this isn’t your ordinary office. These guys believe that fun is an important part of the creative process, so the office is littered with toys to get their brain juices flowing. There’s a basketball in one corner, and a bicycle right behind me. There are action figures on on the windowsill and even a whole bookcase full of comic books and graphic novels. I wonder how many Good Worker Points I need to earn before I get to borrow one…
Til next time,
