Over a month ago I had an opportunity to attend one of the Samsung Developers days focused on Application Development for their Internet TV platform and which was quite an insight into what is a growing industry with plenty of opportunities to innovate. It’s not something I’ve had much exposure to in the past but I attended with an open mind and ready to discover opportunities and soak up the presentations and workshops.

One of the real gems from the event had to be an app that has blossomed out of this platform and it’s one you may have already come across on the GoogleTV,www.WeDraw.tv by the folks fromMOVL. It was so revolutionary at the time that this year Samsung have asked all participants of theFreetheTVchallenge to focus on ‘converged apps’ category.

At the end of the day WeDraw is not only an entertaining and clever app plus it’s also agnostic of the platform, be it a smart TV, a smartphone or your computer. Do try it out, no expensive Smart TV required!

That having been said, the overall feeling at the end of the event, though, was predominately underwhelming and even quite frustrating. We’ve made so many strides of progress on the web over the last decade, and more recently, with the plethora of devices and their platforms (be it iOS or Android) yet here we have a leading consumer manufacturer wanting to tap into this disruptive wave which we’re all riding yet making what appears to be some quite fundamental mistakes in their platform or ecosystem.
