Yesterday, the great Colombian salsa and tropical music singer Joe Arroyo passed away at the age of 55.
Born in 1955 in Cartagena, Arroyo was already singing in one of the most important music venues in the city by the age of ten. His big break came in 1971 when he was discovered by Ernesto Estrada and invited to join his band. He went solo in 1981 and continued in the business until his death.
From Colombia Reports:
On Monday, doctors said that the singer suffered from several organ failures after which the local bishop was called to prepare the legend for his imminent death.
The Cartagena-born Arroyo is considered one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century and dominated the Colombian salsa scene after his first steps in the music business at age 15. He signed with the legendary Discos Fuentes label in 1971 and played in salsa bands like The Latin Brothers and Fruke y Sus Tesos.
